I am only a little way in to this book, but I’m liking it. It is not for the woo-woo averse, as it does talk about angels, etc.
Ask Your Guides: Connecting to Your Divine Support System by Sonia Choquette
What I’m liking about it is that she starts out by saying that to get in touch with the spirit world, you have to first get in touch with your own spirit – by doing the things your spirit loves, the things that make you feel happy and playful and light and good. (Because that lighter/higher vibration gets you on a closer plane to spirit entities.) Just reading this I felt affirmed in a couple of things that I enjoy but don’t let myself do because they seems ‘silly’ orĀ ‘pointless’. Or I do them but I don’t let myself enjoy them.
Somehow saying ‘this is what my spirit likes to do’ makes it a little less personal. As in: heck, it’s silly, but you know those spirits…who knows why they like things? It lets me get out of judgment. I’m really used to judging myself, but I wouldn’t want to judge my spirit, that would just be mean. Cause spirits are like dancing beams of light and I can’t fault them for being silly. I’m reminded of the movie Dogma where Alanis Morissette plays God. After she does her Godly duties of deciding or declaring something or other, she wanders off and they find her doing headstands under this tree in the park. It’s hard to criticize something so playful and free. So if I connect to that part of me, and see it as not exactly me, but something light and playful inside of me, then I don’t want to criticize it.
It’s just a mental trick but it helped free up some lightness inside me around some things I like to do.
So for instance, I love buying new books. I don’t always read each one, sometimes I’m captivated only as long as it takes to get them home. Sometimes they sit on my shelf and I pick them up years later and get into them. Sometimes I am totally into a book for a week and then move right on to something else without finishing it (actually, I hardly ever actually finish a book, even the ones I love – there’s always a new one that catches my eye!). It’s not very efficient, and I have criticized myself for having so many books I haven’t finished, and many I haven’t really started, and being ‘fickle’.
But you know what? I like books. I like having them around, buying new ones, reading them, enjoying them, and getting excited about each new one. So no more guilt-trips about books.
And I like writing reviews on GoodReads. It’s about the only social networking site I actually like.
So that’s one thing my spirit loves. What does your spirit love?
